MAIN EVENT
PROFESSIONAL MUAY THAI
5 Rounds
Men's Light Cruisweight 179-186
ANDREW KAPEL 9-2
Minneapolis, MN
VS FUAD KERANOVIC 20-4
Sanski Most, Bosnia
Round 1 Kapel used straight punches from the outside to tag Keranovic throughout the round. He was able to catch Keranovic off balance with a kick that put Keranovic down in the round but Keranovic popped right up making it a flash knockdown. As Kapel got closer he was able to land a few elbows to the head of Keranovic but they did not appear to do much damage. They did however earn him points with the judges. All judges gave the round to Kapel.

Round 2 Kapel began with a round kick to Keranovic’s body but Keranovic answered with a round kick of his own that knocked Kapel down. Kapel got up to make it a flash knockdown. Keranovic closed the distance on Kapel and was able to land some hard shots to the body and upper cuts to the chin of Kapel that stunned Kapel. The clear advantage went to Keranovic in the round.

Round 3 After a dominant second round for Keranovic, Kapel’s strategy appeared to be hit and run throughout this round. He would tag Keranovic from the outside and when Keranovic got close enough to land a series of damaging blows, Kapel was able to successfully tie him up against the ropes and throw an elbow before Referee Mike Storm would separate them. It was a better round for Kapel with two judges giving him the edge in the round.

Round 4 Keranovic possibly rested in the last round because he came forward again in this round like he did in round 2. He began throwing more elbows himself to the head of Kapel and managed to open a small cut on the top of Kapel’s head but it was not serious enough to become a factor in the fight. Keranovic won the round on all cards.

Round 5 Keranovic remained the aggressor in the final round. Kapel was able to keep it close with effective counter punching and even landed a brilliant elbow strike to the bridge of the nose of Keranovic which opened a cut. The blood did not flow into Keranovic’s eyes and did not become a factor during the remainder of the round. In a close last round the judges scored the round 2-1 for Keranovic. A good fight and a close fight the judges scored it 48-47, 47-48 and 49-46.

Winner by Split Decision—Fuad Keranovic

CO-MAIN EVENT
PROFESSIONAL MUAY THAI
5 Rounds
Men's Welterweight 142-147
JOEL MICKELLS 0-0
La Vista, NE
VS CHAD OBERMILLER 0-1
Hastings, NE
Round 1 Mickells used his long arms to attack Obermiller from the outside as Obermiller would continually swing for the fences in an attempt to catch Mickells with a one shot knockout. Mickells was able to avoid most of the wild power punches and managed to get inside one time to land a sharp knee to the body of Obermiller. Obermiller went down from the knee but was able to get right up turning it into a flash knockdown. The edge in the round went to Mickells.

Round 2 Obermiller, again trying to land the single power punch to end the fight, missed Mickells who flew at Obermiller with a knee that nearly caught Obermiller in the head. Mickells cornered Obermiller and landed several punches to his body and several elbows to the head which put Obermiller down forcing Referee Terri Storm to step in and issue an 8 count. Mickells came at Obermiller as the fight resumed and this time had Obermiller trapped in the corner eating knees and elbows to the head and body that put Obermiller down a second time in the round earning him a second 8 count. Again Mickells flew at Obermiller with knees and elbows. Obermiller tried to back away but got trapped in the corner again and went down for a third time from Mickells’ onslaught forcing Referee Terri Storm to step in and end the fight at 2:40 of the round. It’s possible that Obermiller broke his right hand in the fight.

Winner by TKO—Joel Mickells

T.B.A Women's North American Bantamweight Amateur Title
5 Rounds
MELINA CANIGLIA 5-2
Omaha, NE
VS CORRINE NEHME 2-0
Ottawa, Canada
Round 1 Caniglia established herself as the aggressor throughout most of the round with kicks to Nehme’s legs and body followed by straight punches to the head. Nehme attempted to steal the round by moving forward with a flurry of punches at the end but not enough to impress the judges. All judges gave the round to Caniglia.

Round 2 Nehme began the round as she finished the first. She came at Caniglia with several brief flurries of punches to the head and body of Caniglia only to be answered in return by straight hard shots to her head and body by Caniglia. In a closer round, one judge gave the edge to Nehme while the remaining two judges went with Caniglia.

Round 3 Nehme appeared to change her strategy and attack Canigli with knees to the body. She would jump at Caniglia and land a knee to the body but would fail to clinch and tie Caniglia up which resulted in a single knee landing. In return, Caniglia would respond with 4 or 5 hard punches to the head and body of Nehme which negated most points the knees would have accumulated for her. In another close round, the judges scored 2-1 for Caniglia.

Round 4 Nehme continued to throw knees which scored points but this round, Caniglia would clinch with her and return knees of her own along with the straight punches. The judges again went 2-1 for Caniglia.

Round 5 The best round for Nehme. She continued with the knees to Caniglia’s body and was able to follow up with more effective punches than in the previous rounds. Caniglia still fought as hard as she did in the first four rounds but all three judges gave the last round to Nehme. The judges scored the fight 49-46, 47-48 and 48-47.

Winner by Split Decision—Melina Caniglia Melina Caniglia wins the Women’s Thai Boxing Association Amateur North American Bantamweight Title

Men's Lightweight 127-132
MARK MICKELLS 9-3
La Vista, NE
VS DINO LOPEZ 8-3
Wichita, KS
Round 1 Mickells threw a lot of kicks and punches at Lopez but Lopez waded through most of them and landed high impact kicks and punches to the legs and body of Mickells. Lopez was able to put Mickells down in flash knockdowns earning him the round on all judges’ cards by the power of his blows.

Round 2 Mickells began the round as the aggressor closing and clinching with Lopez early in the round. Mickells landed a sharp knee to the sternum of Lopez and put him down. Lopez was slow getting up which forced Referee Mike Storm to issue an 8 count. Mickells was fast to continue the attack as he moved into another clinch with Lopez and threw a second knee to Lopez’ body and put him down again. Referee Mike Storm stepped in and stopped the fight when Lopez was not able to get up at 1:22 of the round.

JEFF CUNNIMGHAM 3-3
Des Moines, IA

They clinched and rolled around the ropes briefly until Daigle threw a strong knee to Cunningham’s body that put Cunningham down earning him an 8 count from Referee Mike Storm. Daigle moved in on Cunningham and threw a series of punches to the head and body of Cunningham. As Cunningham dropped his hands, Daigle landed a right upper cut to the chin of Cunningham that put him down again. Winner by Knockout—Eric Daigle

Men's Heavyweight 195-215
ROGER WOODCOOK 3-3
Wichita, KS
VS JASON BODEWITZ 2-0
Omaha, NE
Round 1 Woodcock began the round with an assault of kicks to the legs and body of Bodewitz followed by a series of punches to the head and body that put Bodewitz down for a flash knockdown. Bodewitz appeared unhurt as he got up and attempted to use his greater height and reach advantage to stall Woodcock’s attack but Woodcock continued his assault with the kicks to Bodewitz’ legs and body. As Bodewitz appeared to focus on defending against Woodcock’s kicks, Woodcock stepped in and landed a right hook to Bodewitz’ jaw that put Bodewitz down and earned him an 8 count from Referee Carl Duncan.

Round 2 Woodcock controlled the round much the same way he did in the last round. His kicks to the legs and body of Bodewitz followed by punches to the head and body had Bodewitz off balance most of the round. Bodewitz attempted to tie Woodcock up in a clinch a few times but Woodcock just pushed him off and kept moving forward.

Round 3 A better round for Bodewitz as he was able to tie a tiring Woodcock up in the clinch more effectively. Woodcock was not able to push Bodewitz off as easy as in the last round. He still landed a couple of shots to Bodewitz’ body but not enough to take the round on two judges cards. The judges scored the fight 29-27, 29-27 and 30-26.

Winner by Unanimous Decision—Roger Woodcock

Junior Featherweight 122-127
MEEKO SPAINHOWER 2-1
Omaha, NE
VS KALEB NEUGIN 1-0
Hastings, NE
Round 1 Spainhower, the taller of the two fighters, used his height and reach to keep a workable distance between himself and Neugin. He threw kicks to the legs and body of Neugin and then followed up with left/right combinations to Neugin’s head as Neugin tried to close. All judges gave the round to Spainhower.

Round 2 Neugin, the stronger of the two, was able to force his way inside and work the head and body of Spainhower with power punches that backed Spainhower up throughout most of the round. Toward the end of the round, Spainhower tied Neugin in a clinch and temporarily stifled Neugin’s punching power but it was too little, too late as two of the judges gave the round to Neugin.

Round 3 Neugin attempted the same strategy he used in round 2. He came forward and tried to pound Spainhower’s head and body with power punches but Spainhower was more successful this round at holding Neugin in the clinches. He was able to control the round by turning Neugin and land several knees to Neugin’s body. The judges scored the fight 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.

Winner by Unanimous Decision—Meeko Spainhower
